I don't have experience with Halifax daycares, but having worked in several and had my son in a couple along the way, I think you need to make a personal decision and ask some good questions. Recomendations are great, but they're not the be-all end-all.
Some questions you may want to ask for an infant/toddler program:
-What are their daily programs like (outdoor play, crafts, naps, circle time, etc.)
-Is each child expected to comply with the centre's schedule or does the schedule evolve around each child (for younger kids you want child-centred schedules)
-What is the staff turn-over rate (have they had the same staff for 13 yrs or will your child be getting new teachers every other month?)...you probably want a happy medium- I've been at centres where the staff stay at the centre for years, but they rotate teachers within each room every year or so to keep things fresh but consistent nonetheless
-Ask about menu items (juice/punch, processed foods, what if your child sleeps through lunch, what if you want to provide snacks or wish your child doesn't have certain products, etc.)
-Any personal parenting requests (okay, I was a high-needs parent who did cloth diapers, no crib, provided my own food, etc. But perhaps you have your own OCD focuses?)
-Daycare phylosophy?
-Peronally, I have a beef with behavioural training and believe in just trusting an infant's cues...I asked things like "what would you do if..." and general questions to get a feel with how behaviours would be dealt with. Time outs and punishments and ignoring children's cues should be a red flag that the centre isn't current on their discipline strategies.
