Apple orchards and pumpkin patches 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I think visiting apple orchards and pumpkin patches is a great way to celebrate to foods of the season. Where do you go to pick apples and pumpkins? And what are your favorite recipes?

Growing up we picked apples at Haneveld's orchards outside Montague PEI and grew our own pumpkins. Favorite dishes were apple crisp and pumpkin pie. My hubby just made our first pumpkin pie of the season and we are planning on making an apple crisp with some apples from the market this weekend.

We like to go to Noggin's Corner Farm, just outside of Kentville. They have pumpkin- and apple-picking, a corn maze, and lots of fun stuff for the kids.

We used to go to Noggins until they jacked their prices sky high. It's fabulous, but we prefer Willowbank.

It's about 5 minutes from Noggins.

Willowbank has u-pick raspberries, apples, pumpkins. If you pick something there is no charge otherwise.
If you buy a bracelet for your kids over 2 or 3 (I forget because they just charged us for two of our kids, not our 2 year old) bracelets are $5 each or if you have a huge bunch, max &20 a family. (They didn't charge us for ourselves, just two of our 4 kids)
Bracelet gets you hay rides, pony rides, petting zoo access and feed, spooky hay tunnel and feeding the pigs
We love this place because the apples are awesome and easily accessible and it has a more homey feel. Not as crowded either.
Fresh veggies and farm wares for sale as well.

Bring a lunch and sit at a picnic table by the river.. it's lovely

No I don't work there.. heheheh.. just tried alot of places and this is the one we fell in love with!

Another vote for Noggins being fab, but Lisa is right that it does get crowded and it is expensive! Maybe we will check out Willowbank this year. How do the mazes compare, Lisa?

We also like to combine our pumpkin/apple picking trip with train rides on the model railway in Windsor. Info is here:

There's also lots of info on upicks and events in the valley this fall here:

As for recipes, can't help you there, not with my cooking! Hopefully someone else has some ideas!
