We'll be arriving in Halifax in just a few weeks (hooray!).

We've never been out East, but I see that by the maps there's a LOT of water (yay!). Are the near-by lakes safe for swimming? Any favourite spots? We're outdoorsy, camping, off the beaten-path kind of people. Public beaches are fine and dandy in some cases but we'd much prefer something a little more remote.
Please note, although no boardcode and smiley buttons are shown, they are still useable
