money, money, money... 1 Year, 10 Months ago
Just curious. Are there any other Dave Ramsey followers out there?(http://www.daveramsey.com/)

I got his book "Total Money makeover" (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/Total-Money-Makeover-Proven-Plan-Dave-Ramsey/9781595550781-item.html?ref=Search+Books%3a+%2527total+money+makeover%2527) out from the library last summer, and man-o-man has it changed our finances! We're incredibly close to being completely out of debt now (except for our mortgage) and are determined to NEVER borrow again.

It's been an incredible journey. The mental clarity and stress that's released just by being in control of your money and not trapped in that paycheck to paycheck cycle is priceless. His book combined with the FlyLady's "Sink Reflections" (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/Sink-Reflections-Marla-Cilley/9780553382174-item.html?ref=Search+Books%3a+%2527sink+reflections%2527) has really made some seriously drastic changes for the better in our lives.

A resource woth looking into if you haven't yet.

I haven't really read his books, but I've looked at his plan on his website.

I've been pushing to implement it, and once we move next month our debt is going way down, so I hope to get it paid off quickly and then get our 3 months expenses fund saved.

Though my husband is convinced we can only use this money if we actually have no jobs - if the car breaks he would rather put it on credit than dip into that savings. Which is totally illogical, but he is really weird with money.

I agree, it is empowering to have control of your money. I am just worried dh and I may not be on the same page. Maybe I should buy him the book...

DH and I had many a disagreements about it when we first started. I found it incredibly frustrating that he wasn't on board when I was so ambitious about it. I asked him to give it a month (in reading the book I was very motivated and very eagre to move forward...a 180 from how I used to deal with money). DH is right, DR doesn't make logical mathematical sense, but the numbers and math are easy and if it were only about the numbers we'd all be out of debt. I like that DR reognizes how much of finances are behavioural and psychological.

I love the book. If it's a topic that interests you, I'd suggest the book over the website any day. The stories and details/rationals that are shared are very enlightening.

Hi there,

I have read this book and coming from an industry professional, it is a great read and gives some great advice.

He doesn't get into all the intricate details in regards to financial planning, but touches on a lot of great ones.

Another great piece of advice is to seek the help of a financial planner, there are many who offer free advice and know the ins and outs of the money business.

Thanks for sharing!
