How'd you pick a name? 2 Years ago
Just curious....

DS's name is Hunter and I think it was the ONLY name DH and I agreed upon. If I had to rationalize it I'd say it's bit of an homage to Bob Hunter, the guy who did "paper clips?" on the morning news in his robe and one of the founders of Greenpeace who passed away around the time DS was born....if you ask DH he likes to think of it as related to Hunter S. Thompson.

If we have/when we have a girl I think I'd like to name her Marley...a bit of a play on DH's mom's name of Marlene with a modern twist. I've always been set on that for a girl's name for some reason...

Great topic!

Afraid though I don't have any great story to tell. My son's name is Alex(ander) - not much of a story behind that other than my husband and I could both agree on it! My husband kept saying no to names because he'd associate it with someone he knew growing up. I think I was much more reasonable and open to ideas! Heh.

Looking forward to hearing other stories!

Despite being burdened with a horrible and difficult name which had led me to promise NEVER to burden my children...I did!

My daughter is Issaca - meaning laughter. She was always going to be Thalia or Gabriella, but when she arrived after a traumatic birth she just lightened up the world and brought laughter...

My son is Kazamir (though just as often he is Obblee Onkers) and we really struggled with finding a name we liked. We knew he would be a boy before he was born, so the search for the perfect name began. His sister (20 months) quickly named him Obblee Onkers after her favourite farting alien. As (sort of ) responsible parents we thought he should have another name to use too. We struggled to find a boy's name that didn't have an aggressive meaning, which wasn't going to work for us. Finally Zamir arrived for my husband and Kazamir for me...Kazamir means 'announcer of peace'.

Remembering my burden of odd and difficult name we did give them 'normal' and short middle names to change to if they so choose.

We had our fair share of 'yuck' and 'oh dear' from friends and family, but I think over all we did the right thing...and I wouldn't change it (yet)!

Ha ha, I have never heard of that particular farting alien, but what a great story!

I think it's awesome to have a deep name with a meaning that actually means something. Hunter is certainly living up to his name- had he been born 200 years ago and we lived in a forest with bos and arrows readily available I'm fairly certain he'd be one of those full-of-testosterone all-boy boys (well, he is one of those boys, but he may have had more suitable outlets for his energy). I think for my next one I may need to pick something a tad more mellow and hope it wears off on them....
