Hi Sharoo

Welcome to Halifax! (Or Sackville, I guess I should say!) The library on Sackville Drive does a fair amount of programs for kids and is a nice area for playing, reading and relaxing as well.

There's the Vineyard Indoor Playground on Wed and Thurs mornings on Sackville Drive:

http://www.hrmparent.ca/events/tview_detail/c/669/2009/11/25/

and a playgroup on Tuesday mornings at Faith Baptist Church (corner of Stokil and Beaverbank):

http://www.hrmparent.ca/events/tview_detail/c/1134/2009/11/24/

Also there's the Tree House Cafe - an indoor playground on Glendale: http://mytreehouse.ca/

There's also parent n tot swims at the Sackville Sports Stadium:

http://thestadium.ca/index2.php?sched=0

and family skates too:

http://thestadium.ca/index.php?id=3&sub=4

That's all in Sackville. Of course, if you want to venture out to Bedford or Fall River and beyond there's lots more to do as well. Have a look at our activity calendar and the Family Fun section of our Parenting Directory for more ideas.

Sorry it took me so long to respond - I've been so busy with the ABC Family Card (a new discount card for families - launching soon!) that HRM Parent is getting a bit neglected!!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for posting. I'm also new to the Sackville area and have been trying to find stuff for me and my 18 month-old to do. Very helpful!

There is also a playgroup in the church on Stokil Drive, not sure what the church is called but if you approach from Beaverbank Road its the one on the right. This group happens on a friday morning half nine till half eleven.

Re:sackville area playgroups, etc. 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hello, I am originally from Truro,NS but had been living in Calgary for the last 6 years. My husband and I just moved back to NS to raise our baby girl ( 6 weeks old) and bought a house in the Beaver Bank/Sackvile area.
I have been all over the community trying to find mom and baby groups,or a parent and baby group that meets for coffee or any sort of activity, but everything is shut down for the summer, do you know of any groups that are happening over the summer,or want to meet for coffee.

Hi,

I found the same thing. I moved to Sackville last October and have just discovered that everything does shut down for the summer. I have a two-year old and am about to have another baby so haven't been venturing out too far anyhow. Sometimes I take my two-year old to the park/lake where the Kinsmen Rec Centre is. It's off First Lake Drive. Other times, I drive to the city to do stuff. I often check out what might be happening in Halifax - festivals etc...you just missed Sackville and Bedford days. Also, I've been meaning to check out the aplaydia(?) spot on the Bedford highway. I'd be interested in getting together after the baby is born.

Things are finally picking up in Sackville for Mom/Parents and babies! I couldn't be happier!

It has been a rough couple of months being new to the area with an newborn and not knowing anyone.

Anyhoo, Memory Lane has Public Health Nurses there weekly now on Weds. and I met quite a few moms there that are looking to do "stuff". WE swapped email addresses and hopefully an informal group will form from that.

Message me with your email address if anyone wants to be included on the emails of whats up next and where we will hopefully be meeting.

Hi,

I've been going to the Memory Lane Wed afternoon sessions and would love to find more Mom and Baby things to do in the area. Please let me know if you hear of anything.

Jackie

Hi Jackie,
There is a fabulous play group at The Lifesong Church on Stoikil drive in Beaver Bank on Friday mornings starting at 9:30am - 11am that a group of us usually try to go to.
To be honest, the majority of things I have found to do have been off the HRM Parent under 6 planner.
