Let's Create: Advent Calendars

Posted by SarahW in HolidaysCreateArts and crafts

Ok, so I know we just got through the craziness of pumpkin carving, costume making and trick-or-treating but with less than a month until we start the countdown to the holidays, it’s a perfect time to start thinking about an advent calendar.

Here’s a few ideas to get you started.  The kids will love helping you create your own version and guaranteed it’ll be something you’ll treasure for years to come.  Plus, be sure to get creative and have fun filling it with more than just chocolate….trinkets, money, stickers, erasers and more.

Gather up all the old worn our jeans that are ready for the trash and turn them into this neat pocket calendar to hold all the fun favours.

Leave it to Martha to come up with this adorable set of matchboxes that transforms into a tiny tree as they are opened.

Mini envelopes that you make or buy are an easy way to create your countdown with this easy calendar .

If you like recycling – this is the calendar for you. Old magazines, cards or giftwrap are transformed into these sweet paper pockets to hold plenty of treats.

Who would have thought?  Check out this fast and easy advent calendar made out of a basic shoe organizer.

This one is just too cute and so easy, especially if you have lots of teeny unmatched socks that you’re still hoping to find the match for.

Finally, here’s the one we made a few years ago using felt, glitter glue and lots of tiny embellishments that we had so much fun collecting.  It’s pulled out every year and watching the excitement of our kids as they unveil the daily treasure will never get old.

Cute ideas! My parents give my kids advent calendars. I hear that this year they are getting really cool ones that will be reused for years to come.
