Bosom Friends pairs new mothers who plan to breastfeed with trained, experienced breastfeeding mothers for emotional and practical support, education and referrals to other community resources. Bosom Friends is run as a telephone support line with occasional, optional group get-togethers.

  • New moms receive the emotional and practical support needed in order to successfully continue breastfeeding.
  • Healthier babies.
  • Support moms gain important skills and knowledge from the training and valuable volunteer experience.
  • Breastfeeding in general is being nurtured and supported in the local area.
  • There is an increase in sustained breastfeeding rates overall.
  • The community gains experienced, trained support workers.

Bosom Friends is available to mothers throughout the HRM.
